Geologic Interests: My geologic interests are based on the idea that stratigraphy and geomorphology record evidence of landscape evolution. Fundamentally I am a field geologist who combines sedimentology and stratigraphy, geomorphology, structural geology, and isotope geochemistry to infer landscape evolution. Current projects include: 1) Using in-situ cosmogenic isotopes of 10Be and 26Al to quantify the ages of fluvial terraces along the Ventura River in southern California to determine the climatic and structural controls on terrace formation. 2) Basin analysis of the Kashi foreland along the Tian Shan margin in western China, including sedimentology, magnetostratigraphy, and structural analyses. This work aims to understand the foreland basin evolution related to the Indo-Asian collision. 3) Determining the glacial chronology of the Trinity Alps in northern California by detailed mapping and cosmogenic isotope analysis. This work will correlate glacial periods in the Klamath mountains with the well-known record from the Sierra Nevada. Past projects include the stratigraphic and structural controls on fault rupture during the 1999 ChiChi earthquake along the Chelungpu fault in Taiwan, and magnetostratigraphy within intermontane basins in Kyrgyzstan.
